Sydney Harbour Bridge, need we say more?

April 30th, 2008 · No Comments

Duration: 1-2 hours
Suggested Start Time - Morning | Best done in Any Season
This is a Walking tour.

General tour of the The Sydney Harbour Bridge. If you come to Sydney, and you want to experience all the 'have tos' here is a break-down of the Bridge itself. The Sydney Harbour Bridge walkway itself is always open, the lookout however is limited to 10am-5pm daily. From the lookout there are phenomenol views of the city, the harbour and of course the bridge itself. Apparently on a very clear day you can see all the way to the blue mountains...but personally I'd have to see it to believe it! There are 200 stairs to the Pylon Lookout, and on the way there are 3 levels of exhibits which give you a bit of historical history etc about the bridge and its construction. The walkway is 1km long. Inside the pylon approx halfway up is the Museum which is worth a look if you are interested in the historical significance of the bridge etc.

Manly Heritage Walk, Through the Centre of Manly

April 17th, 2008 · No Comments

Duration: More than 3 hours
Suggested Start Time - Morning | Best done in Any Season
This is a Not Specified tour.

Starting and finishing at Circular Quay, this tour takes you on a pleasant ferry ride (dependant on the weather!) to Manly. Taking a leisurely walk through the centre of Manly there is lots to see and do, and (dependant on the weather again) even the option of having a swim during the warmer months. If you have left room for lunch 'The Corso' (the area linking the wharf and surf beach) is filled with restaurants and cafes. If you've brought yours with you a nice spot for a bit of a break and a little people/ocean watching is the picnic table area in Steyne Park, overlooking the surf beach. There are also several festivals held at Manly throughout the year. One of these is 'A Taste of Manly,' held on a weekend around May or June, where the local restaurants set up stalls along North and South Steyne. It is best however to check out the visitors centre for details regarding specific times of year.

Staying inside in Sydney

Duration: More than 3 hours

This is a Walking tour.

Sometimes, even in sunny Sydney, it has to rain. This will give you a few ideas to keep you occupied when strolling in the great outdoors isn't looking like a good option. Some of the parts of this tour are a little pricey for a backpacker on a budget, but take a read and choose one if you're really pinched for cash. And you can always simply follow the tour to Stopover 2 and take advantage of the free stuff at the tour's beginning!

Walk Daaahhhling, Walk: Sydney’s Darling Harbour to Circular Quay

April 16th, 2008 · No Comments

Duration: 1-2 hours
Suggested Start Time - Anytime | Best done in Any Season
This is a Walking tour.

Stroll your way through some of Sydney's gems as you go from Darling Harbour to Circular Quay. A popular tourist area, this precinct is peppered with restaurants so make sure that you leave room for a leisurely lunch or dinner on the way. This is also a great way to see the city and harbour by night, lighting is prevalent and streets are usually very busy (if safety is a concern.) A nice way to end the tour? Why not get a gelato at Circular Quay and stroll up to the Opera House of an evening? Hard to beat that view!

Paddington Pride: Sydney’s City Jewel

April 16th, 2008 · No Comments

Duration: 2-3 hours
Suggested Start Time - Anytime | Best done in Any Season
This is a Walking tour.

Take a walking tour through Sydney's Paddington. In the 60s the area experienced somewhat of revival. After WWII the area had become a less-than-desirable locale, and as hard to believe as it is now- somewhat of a slum. Now it is one of Sydney's trendiest (and most expensive) residential areas. Its Victorian terraces are well worth a sight-see, many even now house art galleries. Paddington is also home to several cinemas for the discerned movie buff. Oxford Street runs through Paddington which is the main shopping and eating area, leading either to the CBD or North towards Double Bay and Edgecliff.

Sydney’s Watson’s Bay: To The Lighthouse

April 16th, 2008 · No Comments

Duration: 2-3 hours
Suggested Start Time - Anytime | Best done in Any Season
This is a Walking tour.

Take a tour of Sydney's historic and picturesque Watson's Bay area. From Macquarie Lighthouse this walking tour takes you around the scenic peninsula, eventually ending at Watson's Bay. Watson's Bay sits on the end of South Head Peninsula, and with views like these it's no wonder the average local property prices are well past the two million dollar mark. Starting at Central Station and ending at Circular Quay taking public transport to this area is a good idea (especially over weekends when looking for a park can often be an hour-long ordeal!)
